The Hampton Police Division is investigating a homicide that occurred April 20, 2017, resulting in the death of Travis Wardrick, a 27-year-old Newport News man.
At 9:42 p.m., Public Safety Communications received an e911 call in reference to a shots fired complaint that had just occurred in the 1100 block of Quash Street. While en route to the call the complaint was updated to a shooting.
Officers and Medics from The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue flooded the area where they located Travis Wardrick, a 27-year-old Newport News man, that was suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased by Hampton Medics on scene.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect and victim, who were known to each other, were involved in an altercation just prior to the shooting. A 17-year-old Hampton male juvenile, has been arrested in connection with this incident. He has been charged with one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, one count of Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and one count of Murder.
